Care

Here at Loma Living not only do we want your product to look fantastic when it arrives at your home, we want it to stay that way for many years to come.

Tips for Longer Lasting Furniture:

  • We recommend furniture be assembled near where they will be placed, to avoid moving the product unnecessarily once assembled.
  • Always place the furniture on an even or flat surface to prevent unnecessary stresses on connecting joints of the furniture.
  • If there is a need to move the furniture, please remove all loose items and have extra hands to help lift the furniture to the desired location.  Dragging the furniture will damage both the furniture and the floor.
  • All tall storage furniture, even when they are fully assembled, will require anchoring to the wall to prevent tipping.  Please consult local hardware stores on the type of hardware you need, as this will depend on the type of material the wall is made of.
  • Some new furniture may have an odour of wood and lacquer after coming out of its packaging. This is quite normal and will usually disappear after one or two weeks. Additional ventilation can speed up this process.
  • Regularly check and re-tighten (if necessary) all bolts on furniture that you have assembled yourself.

Sunlight/ Heat/ Moisture

All furniture, regardless of material and finish, would last longer if kept away from elements such as sunlight, heat, moisture and excessive temperature and humidity fluctuations.  To prevent damage to your furniture, we recommend the following:

  • Place furniture away from a heat source, an air-conditioning unit, very hot surroundings and direct sunlight.
  • Always use coasters/placements underneath hot objects, such as pans, plates or glassware to protect the surface of the furniture.

Pets

Prevent pets from climbing, scratching or clawing the furniture.

Children

Prevent children from climbing and jumping on furniture.

Prevent children from playing with furniture with moving parts such as folding chairs, extendable tables, metal action sofa beds, storage beds with lift mechanisms and recliner armchairs with adjustable footrests and backrests.

Furniture containing glass or mirror

Use adequate thick table mats to prevent very hot or cold items from coming in direct contact with the glass surface.

To prevent excessive force on the glass surfaces, please do not sit or stand on the glass surfaces, or use the glass as a chopping surface.

We recommend a tray to hold sharp objects like pens, keys and jewellery that may be otherwise be placed on the mirror or glass tops.

When cleaning the glass surfaces, please use a damp cloth with soft soap if necessary.

Please do not use abrasive solutions since these substances scratch glass.

Wood/Veneered furniture

Place furniture away from a heat source, an air-conditioning unit, very hot surroundings and direct sunlight.

Always use coasters/placements underneath hot objects, such as pans, plates or glassware to protect the surface of the furniture.

Indoor humidity should ideally be kept between 40% and 60% to prevent warping.

Over time, surfaces of furniture pre-treated with oil may dry out.  To maintain the finish of your furniture, we recommend regular treatments with suitable oil as recommended by your local stores.

If any liquid is spilled on the wood surface, wipe immediately but gently, using a clean, firmly wrung damp cloth.  Dry afterwards using another clean, dry cloth. If stains or marks persist, seek professional help and advice. Avoid rubbing the spilled liquid into the surface.

For regular cleaning, use a damp cloth or sponge with clean water. Wipe across the whole surface as one. When done correctly, this procedure takes care of all small hairline scratches, daily wear and tear and dust build up.

Do not use spirits, bleaches or any other chemical cleaners to clean wood furniture.

For extendable tables, it is recommended that the table initially be used in its extended position, to avoid colour variations on the table-top due to different light exposure levels.

Furniture made from wood such as pine will suffer from dents and scratches during normal use as these materials are naturally soft. We believe such marks, like natural wood grain, give the furniture character. If you are uncomfortable with dents and scratches, please seek professional help and advice.

Upholstery

Place upholstered furniture away from a heat source, an air-conditioning unit, hot surroundings and direct sunlight.

Vacuum or brush lightly regularly to remove dust.

In case of accidental spillage, wipe away excess liquid immediately.

Gently press paper towels or tissue on the spilled area to minimise the liquid from seeping into the cushion.

Use a piece of clean, well wrung cloth to wipe away stains.

If necessary, please use a gentle cleaning solution.

Test the cleaning solution in a normally invisible part of the cover if necessary.

If stains or marks persist, seek professional help and advice.
